Demographically, the focus in the news is about mostly about the 10,000 people turning 65 each day. This is indeed news worthy, and candidly, the government and the society as a whole has yet to adequately prepare for this silver tsunami. However, one of the fastest growing populations are those 85+ and for this group of non-media seeking individuals, time is of the essence to provide the support and services needed today. For this group, memory impairment impacts 1 in 2 individuals. For this group, housing costs as a percentage of their income is rising. Drug costs are rising. Social isolation is being experienced by more and more as they outlive their loved ones. This is the group that should not be forgotten. So, let us turn our attention to this important population who sacrificed for us through wars and economic hard times. Together we can make this silent generation know how much we appreciate them.
