History

On January 24, 1884, the Presbyterian Home of Baltimore, as it was then known, first opened its doors on Calvert Street in downtown Baltimore. In 1920 the name of the residence was changed to the Presbyterian Home of Maryland, and in 1929 the Home moved to its current location, the Offutt Estate, a large and gracious home in Towson, Maryland.

Over the course of time numerous changes have been made to the original dwelling. The construction of additional wings has allowed the Home to expand its population and the addition of a wellness area, including an activity center and physician’s suite, has allowed us to provide up-to-date accommodations and services within the Home’s gracious environment.

A walking path with conveniently placed benches meanders beside a low stone wall on the edge of the property and sitting porches grace the facade of the building. Residents enjoy both the charming outdoor surroundings and the many welcoming and comfortable areas within the building itself. In addition, the surrounding neighborhood offers a vast array of social, cultural, educational and recreational opportunities to keep even the most active residents busy.

Over the years the Presbyterian Home has grown from an institution serving the needs of church members to a community that welcomes residents of all faiths and denominations.

The Presbyterian Home of Maryland remains true to its mission of providing superior quality services in a caring and respectful manner, encouraging each resident to enjoy his/her life to the fullest extent possible.

Security
Feeling comfortable and secure is a major concern for seniors as well as for family members. At the same time a sense of isolation or separation from the larger community is undesirable. Providing security, a safe and comfortable home to return to after a day's venture into the greater community, is one of the things Presbyterian Home does best.

Access to locations and events outside the Home provides balance in the lives of our residents. Our ideal location enables residents to participate in many activities they enjoyed prior to moving to the Presbyterian Home. Rather than giving up their freedom, residents are free to enjoy life with the comfort of knowing they have a secure home to return to at the end of the day.
